CARTOGRAPHY OF MEMORIES OF NEIGHBOURHOOD STRUGGLES

PRESENTATION AT CCC QUINTA DEL SORDO

Tuesday March 25 / 19.30

This month we present our Cartography of Memories of neighbourhood struggles as part of the program of activities of the exhibition Casas Bajas, which portrays the social and architectural transformations in the south of Madrid between the 60s and 70s, through the photographs of Santi Vaquero and with the texts that we have elaborated from La Liminal.

The images of the exhibition focus on the district of Vallecas, while our research on neighborhood memories has focused on Carabanchel Alto and Meseta de Orcasitas. In this meeting we will reflect on the common elements and differences that have had the struggles of each territory, as well as on the processes and devices that shape their memory.

The presentation will be held on Tuesday, March 25 at 19.30 at the Contemporary Creation Centre Quinta del Sordo (entering through C/ Rosario, 17), and admission is free until full capacity is reached. More information here.

BETWEEN CESIUM AND STRONTIUM

A JOURNEY THROUGH GREEN WATERS

This session will be tinged with that intense, sparkling, viscous and phosphorous green that reminds us of chemical -and not so chemical- waste, which is not the strong point of Móstoles, the Community of Madrid or even the peninsula. With them we cannot let our guard down, we have to remain alert so that they do not spill more unwanted spills camouflaged in the waters around us. Equipped with our chemical protection suits, we will dive into green and steaming waters, and to guide us through the radioactive sludge we will count on the experimental artist and musician Javi Álvarez.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, March 18 at 18.00 at the CA2M Museum with the desire to listen to cesium and dance to the rhythm of strontium. In this session it is not necessary to register in advance, the entrance will be free until full capacity is reached. More information here.

SOUND MAPS, MEMORIES AND NEIGHBOURHOOD STRUGGLES

The Cartography of Memories of Neighbourhood Struggles in Madrid research continues! In this project we are immersed in the elaboration of two sound maps, of Carabanchel Alto and Meseta de Orcasitas, which will allow us to walk through these neighbourhoods guided by the listening of citizens' memories.

In this process, we have visited neighbourhood associations, consulted archives, and recorded some of the voices that have been part of these neighbourhood mobilisations, with a special focus on the voices of women, who have left testimony of their forms of organisation and participation in these struggles.

On January 16, 2025 we will present these maps at the Asociación Vecinal de Orcasitas, and on January 23, 2025 at the Centro Cultural García Lorca.
